Global Supply Chain Management
Global Supply Chain Management is an introductory workshop designed for a spectrum of audiences: individuals new to the field, specialists with limited exposure to supply chain outside their specialties, senior managers with supply chain management responsibilities, non-supply chain professionals who work with supply chain functions (e.g., finance and accounting, sales and marketing, real estate, manufacturing.)
The workshop is composed of a dozen topical sessions covering both tactical and strategic aspects of supply chain planning and execution in a global environment, including: general consequences of globalizing domestic supply chains, sourcing tactics and decision making, special challenges in satisfying global markets, communications and cultural issues and approaches, considerations and developments in specific sources/markets (e.g., China, India, Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Central/South America, Caribbean Basin, Africa) challenges and mitigations in air and ocean shipments, security, distinctions among outsourcing off shoring and near shoring, and others. Highly interactive, the sessions are highlighted with team approaches to case work and attendee input.
Attendees will learn:
- Risks, rewards, and pitfalls in globalized supply chains
- Techniques for mitigating, managing, and overcoming global risks
- Similarities and differences among several offshore options
Attendees will be able to:
- Work more comfortably and effectively in multicultural situations
- Evaluate, at a high level, options in global facilities and operations
- Analyze globalized cost and performance beyond the simple unite price elements
This workshop can be tailored to focus on a specific industry, or to include special attention to specific industry or geographic issues. Typically Global Supply Chain Management is delivered in two module days, no necessarily contiguous. Geographic and industry specialists may augment core faculty to deliver significant and relevant hands-on experience to the sessions.
